Babes

Nathan left soon after we fucked. I immediately hopped in the shower and washed all of the sweat and semen off my body and lumped my hair into a bun. I scrubbed my body with a generous amount of body wash and allowed the steam of the shower to open my pores.

I smiled as I thought about tonight. Nathan is a nice guy who comes from a nice Jewish family but he’s not exactly what I want; he’s not very conversational or worldly. I need more excitement in my life. I applied for plenty of communications jobs on the east coast and a few on the west coast, not sure where they’d lead me.

After my shower, I walked back into my room and sat on my bed. I turned on a smooth listening Spotify playlist and slathered generous amount of strawberry scented lotion on my legs, arms, and feet. I threw on a large cotton t-shirt, blue boy shorts and fuzzy green lounge socks. I skimmed through my communication textbooks and finished writing a term paper due Friday.

My phone buzzed, it was Jay requesting a video chat.

“I really missed you. ” Jay said, “I wish we could see each other. I want you to know that I want more just sex with you.”

I smiled to myself. “I know, I feel the same way for you. ”

I thought back on previous conversations with Jay. He was interested in exotic foods, hiking, and Lakota history. He wanted to take me on trails and mountains in Washington State, but at that time I was nervous and busy with school and I couldn’t afford to take a trip to him. He told me a lot about his siblings and his upbringing. He’s ten years older than me and wiser and I’d always liked that about him.

“What a quick, weekend trip soon to come see me? I can pay for your flight.” Jay said, “You wouldn’t have to worry about anything.”

My heart raced and I thought about the next few weeks. I only have a few finals to take, then graduation, then I have to hear back from jobs. “I think I’d like that. I just want it to be worth it, I have a lot on my plate now.”

I could tell that Jay was smiling through the phone. “I’ll show you the time of your life, I really mean that. There’s this great authentic Japanese ramen noodle restaurant near me called Tokyo-ya Ramen.”

I opened my laptop and looked up the restaurant and nodded in agreement. “I always wanted to try real ramen. We don’t have good ramen places in my town. ”

Jay: There’s also this great trail in a park I know nearby. We could do all that. Maybe some wine tasting if you’re into that. You know I’ll treat you well.

Me: I’d like that, but I want you to know that I can stand on my own two feet. I’m working on my degree and I want to use it.

“I know, I totally respect that,” he replied. “I just want to show a good woman a good time for one weekend.”

“I’ll see how my schedule goes, alright?” I said.

Jay took a deep nervous sigh. “Would it be too much I came to your graduation? Is it too soon?”

I sighed and thought about it. My family never heard of Jay and it would be kind of awkward to explain that my online sexting buddy was coming to graduation, the only person I told about him was my friend back home, Ashley.

I stretched a little and put my books into my backpack in preparation for tomorrow and laid out tomorrow’s outfit; a simple purple v neck and denim shorts and made sure that I had enough sandwiches ready in the bahis siteleri refrigerator for tomorrow’s lunch. I came back into my small room to make sure that my windows were locked and my door was securely lock. I had roommates last year but they moved out after graduating and I have the house to myself after my landlord basically cut the rent in half. It’s just kind of startling at times when the realization hits that I’m alone in a small house by myself.

The next few days flew by with minimal issues. I purchased my cap and gown and handled some financial aid obligations along with saint double to some friends. I turned in my final papers and hoped for good grades. Nathan and I met up for coffee a few times but we both knew that our situationship was ending, we almost never had spoken about serious issues but we both agreed that it was best to part and be friends.

I settled into the student center with my lunch that consisted of Asian style tofu and rice when my phone buzzed. It was my best friend Ashlynn from back home.

Ashlynn: Hey sweetie how’re things? Tomorrow’s the big day!

I smiled to myself, knowing that tomorrow is graduation.

Things are fine, are you still coming tomorrow?

Ashlynn: Of course! I wouldn’t miss my best friend’s graduation for the world. Are you still seeing Jay on Sunday?

Ashlynn knows is protective of me but I told her about Jay from day one. She wasn’t thrilled that I was leaving for a week with a guy I’d met years prior but she knew that I could take care of myself.

I took another spoonful of my lunch. “Yeah, I just need to pack and I should be set. I’m excited.”

Ashlynn: If something happens just give me his address, I’ll be on the first flight over there lol

Later that day I had work and I settled into the routine of answering university calls and making event schedules for university organizations and clubs. My manager Todd was hovering over my coworker and I, making sure that we answered calls over the police radio.

Todd was one of the few people on campus that actually cared about me after my parent’s death. He allowed me to take a two weeks off with pay to plan their funeral and sent flowers. Our job on campus was located in the main student center nestled by the front door and he had his own office nestled behind the front desk.

“Hey, we’re all having a grad party tonight in the lounge, there will be plenty of cake,” Todd said to me. “Everyone’s invited.”

I looked up at Todd with excitement. “I’ll be there. Can I invite non-employees?”

Todd shook his head. “Of course, it starts at 7pm.”

I didn’t have a ton of friends on campus but I did have Camelia, we met fours ago in African American Literature class and we took pride in schooling the white students on racism, since we attend a mostly white university. Knowing that should be free tonight, I texted her the details and asked if she’d be interested.

When I opened my phone to check for her response, I realized that Jay had texted me.

Jay: Two more days. . .

My face turned red with admiration.

Me: I know, I’m very excited. I’m packed and passport ready.

Jay: You have the ticket I got for you right?

Me: Yes, it’s with my passport. Thank you againJ

Jay: Anything for my girl.

His canlı bahis siteleri girl, that statement made me more excited to see him, hopefully this would give me the therapy I need. I never fully opened up to him about everything that happened to me.

Camelia, my best friend arrived to the lounge at 7:15 in a trendy tank top dress with her hair in meticulous cornrows, she always looked great and she was always late.

I was already holding her slice of cake while I sat in one of the many pale blue couches eating my own slice. She reached down and embraced me.

“Thanks girl!” she said as she took the slice from me.

I took another bite. “Yeah no problem. I can’t believe we’re graduating in like twelve hours.”

Camelia nodded. “I know, now here comes ten years of student loan debt.”

She’s studying psychology and has to go to hard school, but she’s taking a hap year to spend time with family.

Todd came over to greet us while wearing our college’s gear. “So glad ya’ll could make it. Stay as long as you want.”

Camelia, always the flirt, started making her rounds on Todd. “Thank you very much. The cake is great, did you make yourself? I bet you know your way around the kitchen. ”

“Catering.” Todd said abruptly.

I lightly banged my knee against hers. When Todd walked away, I reminded her that Todd has a girlfriend, who he’s planning on marrying.

“You know he’s basically engaged right?” I whispered to her. “He asked my opinion on rings.”

Camelia rolled her eyes. “I don’t see a ring yet, so it’s fair game.”

I groaned and finished my cake. I love Camelia but she doesn’t always understand boundaries.

My two dozen coworkers were spaced sporadically around the lounge talking casually, even though only about six of us were graduating. Our job one of was of the few campus jobs everyone wanted. I got to know most of them but we hire new employees every semester. I felt like a piece of my heart was with this job.

Camelia nudged me while she ate her last piece. “We’re really gonna miss this place huh?”

My alarm buzzed at exactly 7am on the dot. I rolled over to disable it and checked my phone. I woke up to several texts from friends back home and even from Jay, congratulating me on today and he sent me words of encouragement. I rubbed my eyes and decided to get up. My lavender sheath dress was on my chair, as well as my strappy white sandals. I headed the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face and I slowly put on my dress for the day. As I was braiding my hair into a low bun, I couldn’t help but think to myself how proud my parents would have been to see me graduate today.

My brothers texted me when they’d gotten to the auditorium where the ceremony was being held. They’d brought Ashlynn with them because her car broke down last minute and they’d found their seats. Our provost gave the opening remarks and we sang our school’s fight song. I stood patiently in line with the rest of the graduates as we made our way to the stage. The anxiety sat heavy in my chest as my eyes filled with tears of happiness and some regret. I straightened my stole and cords as I approached the stage and nervous walked across it, looked to my left every now and then to wave to my family. I shook hands with the president and have güvenilir bahis side-kisses with some of my former professors and accepted my degree in Mass Communication and Sociology with tears streaming down my cheeks. I finally made it.

The rest of the ceremony seemed to fly by in a blur but I cheered on Camelia when she walked towards the very end. After the ceremony, both Camelia’s family and my siblings, along with Ashlynn joined together at Lombardi’s, a local family restaurant.

I ordered the eggplant parm while my brothers both ordered Stromboli.

My oldest brother, Raheem was cutting his sandwich in half when he asked me about my plans. “So what’s next, sis?”

I moved pasta around my fork. “I’m headed over to a friend’s house for a bit, to relax and recharge.”

My other brother, Aaron chimed in. “Is your friend a male? Should I know something?”

“Yes, but we’re all adults here and I’m actually leaving tomorrow.” I replied.

Camelia could sense my agitation. “Yeah I’m sure Amber will be safe, she’s smart and I trust her.”

Ashlynn adjusted her napkin in her lap. “I think we should also keep in mind that she can make her own choices, she did all throughout college and look where it’s taken her.”

“Jobless.” Aaron said.

I clenched my jaw. “I’ll be fine.”

Just then, our waitress stopped by to check on us, I asked for the check almost immediately. Camelia’s parents from the next table over offered to pay.

“Are you sure?” I asked, stunned.

Ashlynn’s mother, who didn’t look a day past thirty, nodded. “Of course. We’re proud of you both.”

I exchanged a smile. “Thank you. I’m very fortunate,” I said as I adjusted my seat closer to my meal. “I’ll have a job soon and I’ll turn it into a career, somewhere. I just need time for myself and I’d like if everyone respected that.”

My brothers continued eating, but I could tell that their mood had softened. As we exited the restaurant, they both pulled me aside and handed me cards. When I opened them in the crowded parking lot, they were celebratory cards with about two hundred dollars each. I could feel myself about to cry again, and they both embraced me.

“We’re proud of you,” Aaron said in between his own tears. “Mom and dad would be proud too.”

Raheem patted my back. “You have to go on for them.”

I nodded and kept my promise. Camelia, Ashlynn and I exchanged tearful goodbyes before leaving, and I told them that I’d keep them up to date on what happens in Tacoma.

On my way back to apartment, my phone lit up with Jay’s photo as I put him on speaker.

“How’s my graduate doing? Tell me about your day!” Jay’s deep voice said.

I smiled as I pulled into my driveway. “It was great! I cried a lot and hot my degree, I didn’t trip on anything.”

Jay laughed. “That’s great. What are you up to now?”

I took my eyes out of the ignition and threw them in my purse and unlocked my front door. “I’m just now gating back home, I need to get some rest before the 4am flight tomorrow.”

“Isn’t it like two in the afternoon there?” he asked.

“Yeah, but I like to make sure the house is clean before I leave, double check if I have everything, stuff like that.” I said.

“Yeah I understand,” he replied. “Your flight gets in around 10am. You’re be really tired.”

I rested my feet on the couch. “Of course, the jetlag will kill me.”

“I definitely have a lot planned for us, but I’ll make sure you rest up first when you get here.” He said.

I smiled to myself and thought about what the next would be like, finally meeting Jay.
